Jasen Crump, Ste. Genevieve police chief, announced last week that he is running for sheriff of St. Francois County in the upcoming 2024 election.
"This is something I have been working towards for years," Crump said. "I still love my job as chief in Ste. Genevieve and will continue to work as the chief as my No. 1 priority.
"I have prepared for this candidacy for the last three years and the timing was just right for this election. The election will not be until August of 2024. This is not a case of me just wanting out of Ste. Genevieve, it is an opportunity for me to grow my career and take that department to the next level. If I do not win the election, I will continue my role as Chief of the Ste. Genevieve Police Department."
A Bonne Terre native, Crump previously served in the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department and on the Bonne Terre police force. He served as assistant police chief in Ste. Genevieve under Eric Bennett 2009-2022. On October 27, 2022, he was officially named police chief.
