Nov 21, 2023One Day Only: $5 Microchips for Dogs and Cats in Fresno - GV Wire
Mark it on your calendar: Oct. 21 is the day to get your pets microchipped.
On Monday, the Central California Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will have its 10th annual Microchip Madness Event at its facility, 103 S. Hughes Ave., in Fresno.
The nonprofit will offer $5 microchipping procedures for dogs and cats.
Dogs must not be aggressive, and cats cannot be feral. Pets must be at least eight weeks old and weigh at least two pounds. Dogs must be leashed, and cats must be in carriers. All pets will get either a free bandana or a cat toy.
No appointments are necessary for the 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. event
Microchips are small computer chips about the size of a grain of rice. The chips are implanted under an animal’s skin with a needle and syringe. Pet owners must register online with contact information. Shelters or veterinarians can scan lost pets to identify and notify owners.
More than 1-in-3 pets will be lost, the CCSPCA says. Microchipped cats are more than 20 times as likely to be returned as those without microchips. Dogs are twice as likely to be returned.
